LOTF: Character Comparison

I think I am most like Piggy, since he thinks of solutions to problems.  He has many ideas about survival on the island, which is similar to how I think before I act.  I think of myself as a person who uses reason and logic to solve problems.  We both have glasses and depend on them for daily life.  Without them, we cannot see well and begin to panic.

Piggy is not popular among the boys, and the many of them do not consider Piggy to be part of the group. They insult him and say that he does not contribute.  This does not happen to me, as no one treats me this way.  Piggy also has asthma, which prevents him from doing any intense physical activity.  Unlike Piggy, I am able to perform to the best of my ability.  Even though we have a few differences, I would relate most to Piggy because of his use of reason.

4/25

I managed to do some review for school again.  I've reviewed some of the old material started preparing for school again.  I did relax today, but I don't think I've fully rested yet.    I did spend some time with my family.

This weekend I don't plan on doing any intense studying.  I'll probably look thorough my work and review.  I want to be productive, but I don't want to work myself too hard.  I'm going to enjoy the next two days, doing what I want to do.  I do hope to be prepared to get back to work when school comes back.

4/24

I had a relaxing day today.  I took a huge break from all the work I've been doing for the past two days, and it feels great.  I wanted to spend some time today studying.  Unfortunately, I didn't get to study as much as I wanted to.  I don't think I spent more than an hour studying.

Anyway, my day was pretty fun.  I was able to read a bit more than usual, and I was ready to take a break from all the work I was doing before.  I did almost nothing involving school in the morning, and I didn't really do anything until the evening.  I'm still glad I don't have more work to do.  I'll probably study more tomorrow, but I still have plenty of time.  I do want to make progress tomorrow, since I probably want to relax on the weekend.

4/23

I'm finally done with my homework as of today.  I still need to check and clean it up, but I managed to finish. I did start my work earlier, but I seemed to end at the same time as yesterday.  I think my pace was the same, and my schedule was was similar to yesterday, so I don't know why I ended around the same time. Tomorrow will be the start of my true break.

Today was similar to the past two days.  I woke up at around 8:00, since I always want to wake and sleep at the same time every day.  I occupied myself with various activities until 10:00, when I started my work. After I did the amount I planned to do, I took a break.  Then, I continued my work.  This pattern continued the entire day.  Right now, I'm planning to sleep soon, and I hope that tomorrow will be a relaxing day.

4/22

Today was similar to yesterday, and I feel a bit tired now.  I did problem after problem over the day, and I'll be glad to see the end of my homework.  The problems aren't too difficult, but there seems to be no end to them.  I alternated between break and work, with my breaks mostly consisting of reading something.  My work sessions don't last long, but it's almost the same task every single time.

I'm glad to be done with the work for today.  I plan to finish all of my homework tomorrow, and that will be another tiring day.  I am getting more sleep though, although I'm still the first one to wake up in my family.  Like yesterday, I delayed the start of my work until much later in the afternoon and evening.  If I start earlier tomorrow, I'll be able to finish sooner.  I could spread my work over a longer period of time, but I want to finish it early to enjoy my break later.  Fortunately, I have only one day to go.

4/21

This morning I woke up at my usual time and was ready to start my day.  I knew there was a lot of work to do; I had some homework that I wanted to finish early.  If I completed the work early, I would be able to relax and fully enjoy my break later.  However, this would mean that I would have to put in a week's worth of work into a few days.  I thought it would not be too difficult, since I had plenty of opportunities to work on the assignments.

However, the work used up more of my energy than I had initially thought it would.  The assignments seemed repetitive to me, and I thought there was no end to the problems.  I wanted to take a break like I was supposed to.  Unfortunately, I have a similar schedule for the next two days.  Fortunately, I have no work plans after that, so I plan to relax.  I hope to enjoy myself.

Extra Credit

The movie "Get Over It" and the play "A Midsummer Night's Dream" are similar in that both involve love and relationships.  A girl leaves one boy to be in a relationship with another, and the boy tries to win her back.   An event similar to this happens in the play.  However, the boy leaves the girl in that instance.  In the movie, the boy also came to love someone else, but the original couple came back together in the play.  There is also no one approving a certain pairing in the movie, as opposed to Egeus approving his daughter's marriage with Demetrius.  The movie and the play both end well. However, the play's characters wonder if they dreamed the events, but the movie's characters do not.

SSR

I read a book about writing.  It gave me tips on structuring and writing an essay.  I read this because I need to develop my own writing skills.  I will have to write in the future, and I will need to know how to write effectively.  I think reading the book helped, but practicing would make my writing better.

Gesture and Thought

Gestures tend to reveal thoughts.  Actors incorporate gestures into their performances by using them when they speak.  If there is no dialogue or monologue, gestures can reveal a character's emotion.  The actor's hands are constantly moving, portraying thoughts and emotions.  For example, characters can tell others to move with movements of their hands.

Poetry Reflection

The poetry slam was a good experience for me.  I got to read a poem in front of the class, and I was told that it was powerful and very meaningful.  My voice projection was good, but I needed to express more emotion.  I'm glad that the class enjoyed my poem, and listening to my classmates' poems was fun as well.

Spoken Word

Every day is a new day
Where we can work and play.
I want to enjoy every one
Because my life isn’t done.
I have the power,
So I should enjoy every hour.

I need to experience more
Even if it’s a chore.
I can make myself happy or sad,
And I will make a day where I’m glad.
Even if yesterday was a bad day,
Every day is a new day.

I, not events, have the power to make my day good.
I could and I would.
Even if the going gets tough,
I still smile, even if it’s a bluff.
It’s the best way
To make the most of my day.

Life is short,
And people sometimes need support.
The people you know
Will help you grow.
When you wake up every day, say
That it’s going to be a good day.

Sonnet

The wind comes quickly on a summer day.
The sky contains a large blanket of cloud,
And out of the clouds comes the sun’s first ray.
It eliminates the darkness’s shroud.

Another light ray comes, and another,
Each piercing the darkness like an arrow.
The sky becomes bright, matched by no other.
The sky is so bright that it seems to glow.

Activity starts below on the ground.
Animals come out and start to work fast.
The whole, wide world is alive with much sound.
All the excitement is going to last.

The light comes through and the light will stay there.
Having a day like this day is not rare.

Haiku

Waiting until now,
A leaf falls and settles down
In a sea of leaves.

Elegy

When that special someone
Leaves the family,
The tree may lose a leaf,
But it remains standing.

That leaf may drop to
The ground,
Not as part of the tree,
But not forgotten.

The loss of one leaf
May affect some
More than
Other leaves.

However, the tree
Continues on,
Lasting many years
In the forest.

Looking down
Below the tree
Would reveal
Those who passed.

However, the tree
Regrows its leaves
And continues
To survive for many years.

This is the cycle of life
That all living things follow.
They stay for such a short time
And then disappear forever.

Although this leaf may fall,
The tree will continue on.
However, this leaf will enjoy
Its time on the tree.

Limerick

There was a man who had no name
And traveled in search of no fame.
The came across a town
That forced him to be a clown.
The man ran away with much shame.

Ballad

There was a large town by the open sea,
Where friendship was thought to be a rope that binded.
A man once described growing up there as
A winding road with no visible end in sight.
The wind is always howling, and the trees always smell sweet.
The man wanted to travel.

The man wanted to travel to another land,
Somewhere so he could feel the roughness of the land
And taste the sweet, sour, and bitter foods.
He wanted to experience the sights, smells, and sounds.
He said the world was the forest, and his town was nothing but a tree.
The man wanted to travel.

Stream of Consciousness

He thinks
Of all the work
He must do
Before his bedtime.

The chores are done.
The work is done.
Now he has free time
And can go to bed early.

Tomorrow will be
Another exciting day;
No work to be done,
So he can go out for a run.

Free Verse 2

Reading through
A story is like
Starting a journey
Reading is a journey.

Once it starts,
There is no end.
Bam!  The urge to read continues.
Reading is a journey.

The journey continues
With its twists
And turns.
Reading is a journey.

Reading is an adventure
That starts and stops
Suddenly and swiftly.
Reading is a journey.

There are millions of ways
To interpret a story,
And none of them are wrong.
Reading is a journey.

Reading can
Be funny, informative,
Persuasive, and more.
Reading is a journey.

Reading is an experience
That will never be forgotten.
It is like riding a bicycle.
Reading is a journey.

Once the story ends,
Another begins,
And the whole process begins anew.
Reading is a journey.

Ode

The pencil
Is like a paintbrush
Suitable for many purposes
Including drawing and writing.

The pencil
Is like an extension
Of my arm,
Drawing and writing.

The pencil,
Can record history,
Write stories,
And draw pictures.

The pencil
Is the tool to use.
After all, it is
The mightiest tool.

Free Verse 1

The snow settles soundly
On a sidewalk.
Whoosh!  The wind comes and carries a mountain of snow
Somewhere in the distance.
This westward wind continues on,
Eventually disappearing deep into the distance.
