I read a book about writing.  It gave me tips on structuring and writing an essay.  I read this because I need to develop my own writing skills.  I will have to write in the future, and I will need to know how to write effectively.  I think reading the book helped, but practicing would make my writing better.

Gesture and Thought

Gestures tend to reveal thoughts.  Actors incorporate gestures into their performances by using them when they speak.  If there is no dialogue or monologue, gestures can reveal a character's emotion.  The actor's hands are constantly moving, portraying thoughts and emotions.  For example, characters can tell others to move with movements of their hands.

Poetry Reflection

The poetry slam was a good experience for me.  I got to read a poem in front of the class, and I was told that it was powerful and very meaningful.  My voice projection was good, but I needed to express more emotion.  I'm glad that the class enjoyed my poem, and listening to my classmates' poems was fun as well.

Spoken Word

Every day is a new day

Where we can work and play.

I want to enjoy every one

Because my life isn’t done.

I have the power,

So I should enjoy every hour.

I need to experience more

Even if it’s a chore.

I can make myself happy or sad,

And I will make a day where I’m glad.

Even if yesterday was a bad day,

Every day is a new day.

I, not events, have the power to make my day good.

I could and I would.

Even if the going gets tough,

I still smile, even if it’s a bluff.

It’s the best way

To make the most of my day.

Life is short,

And people sometimes need support.

The people you know

Will help you grow.

When you wake up every day, say

That it’s going to be a good day.

Sonnet

The wind comes quickly on a summer day.

The sky contains a large blanket of cloud,

And out of the clouds comes the sun’s first ray.

It eliminates the darkness’s shroud.

Another light ray comes, and another,

Each piercing the darkness like an arrow.

The sky becomes bright, matched by no other.

The sky is so bright that it seems to glow.

Activity starts below on the ground.

Animals come out and start to work fast.

The whole, wide world is alive with much sound.

All the excitement is going to last.

The light comes through and the light will stay there.

Having a day like this day is not rare.

Haiku

Waiting until now,

A leaf falls and settles down

In a sea of leaves.

Elegy

When that special someone

Leaves the family,

The tree may lose a leaf,

But it remains standing.

That leaf may drop to

The ground,

Not as part of the tree,

But not forgotten.

The loss of one leaf

May affect some

More than

Other leaves.

However, the tree

Continues on,

Lasting many years

In the forest.

Looking down

Below the tree

Would reveal

Those who passed.

However, the tree

Regrows its leaves

And continues

To survive for many years.

This is the cycle of life

That all living things follow.

They stay for such a short time

And then disappear forever.

Although this leaf may fall,

The tree will continue on.

However, this leaf will enjoy

Its time on the tree.
